Thanks for all the compliments on Nine’s vest, here and at the Mason Dixon KAL. In spite of the lack of activity here on the Green, we haven’t been completely idle:
Socktoberfest: second try on this sock, the slip stitch rib from Senational Knitted Socks; the yarn is Trekking XXL. (Sadly, this is all the sockness produced here in October: let’s call it about 1/4 of a pair, as I was just about to start the heel flap when the month ended). Too many rained out soccer games (= lost knitting time). Thanks again, Lolly, for all the sock thoughts, even if it didn’t produce a lot of sock knitting.
But did someone say socks? There’s an LYS right across the parking lot from the sports store where I ran in last week to pick up mouth guards for Nine and Seven. Ten spare minutes before school’s out? Plenty of time to pick out this...
... and a little something extra. As I explained to the saleslady: just a skein of Noro to play around with. (Didn’t mention I’d never bought such a thing before. Total Noro Novice here.) It’s Silk Garden, color number 8, Royal. As I was winding it into a ball, I came across a knot between a blue-y section and one that looked as if it was going to be greens. I cut the yarn and started making a second ball.
The colors reminded me of peacock feathers, so I went poking around in Barbara Walker #1 for a feathery pattern. She called this one “Diagonal Fern Lace” (it’s on page 211) – but it said peacock tail to me. So:
I started out switching colors (from the blues to the greens) after every 12 row pattern repeat, but soon went to something more flexible, trying to choose a transition point between the two balls of yarn that complimented their shifting colors. (The needles, by the way, are size 6/4.25 Clover bamboo.) Very fun to watch the colors play out.
And what will it be when I’m done playing with it? Well, Nine and I had another tag-team brainstorm the other day, sitting in the van waiting for Seven to finish his piano lesson. I’ll let you know if it works out.
