A quick quiz:
Question 1: What goes “click, click, click”?
(a) busy knitting needles.
(b) the starter on the van after the reading lights in the back have been left on for about 24 hours.
(c) all of the above, as long as you remember to bring your knitting along to the dentist’s office.
Question 2: How many shovelfuls of snow does it take to dig the Volvo out of the snow bank at the side of the driveway when I prove incapable of backing out of the garage in a straight line?
Yeah, Tuesday was one of those days. But today was Wednesday, and I now have a New Hampshire driver’s license, New Hampshire license plates, and a New Hampshire inspection sticker on the van. (Not to mention freshly changed oil, a fully charged battery, and another inch or so of Seven’s sock done.)
Tuesday passed here, unusually for us, without a pancake in sight, and today without a smudge of ash on my forehead, although I am thinking about this:
Teach us to care and not to care
Teach us to sit still
(The footnote: from T S Eliot’s Ash Wednesday. The rest is here, one place where I found the text without a mess of stuff surrounding it. But in fact, with the exception of those two lines, I’m far less fond of that poem than of Eliot’s Four Quartets, Little Gidding in particular.)
