This one comes with a lot of backstory. Cones of Peaches and Crème bought at the start of the summer for a Mason Dixon Absorba bathmat, Kay’s 9-patch dishcloth pattern, my beach trip 9-patch bath rug project. And then, just when I’m on the brink of seaming the bathmat’s two halves together, Nine, in an instant, re-imagines the rug as a vest. So I knit on.
I picked up a copy of Vivian Hoxbro’s Domino Knitting about halfway through Phase 2 of this project, and learned how to weave in yarn tails from it – which really help speed up the finishing yesterday. That’s when I seamed the patched that weren’t already knit together, and then joined the two main rectangles up the back and along the two sides as far as the armholes. The techniques in Domino Knitting, now that I’ve seen it, definitely would have helped design a vest like this one, and probably knit it more efficiently – if, of course, that’s what I had started out to do. This wasn’t where we were heading, but it’s pretty good place to have ended up.
